Over 22,000 men and women in Arizona serve the U.S. Military on Active Duty status. An additional 12,000 Arizonans serve as part of the Arizona National Guard and Reserve. Military members and their families are faced with a variety of stressors that non-military families typically do not experience, such as cycles of deployment, impacts of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) on both the service member and family members, and single parenting during a spouses' deployment. In response to the unique needs of military families, the FRC in collaboration with community organizations has created parents' and children's support groups and programming. This fall, the FRC will offer Uniting the Homefront, an adult family member support group for Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve and Operation Military Kids - Camo Camp, a hands-on, interactive day camp for military kids with parents from all branches of service.
